Many conditions can affect the eyelids including blepharitis, styes, cysts, basal cell carcinomas, droopy eyelids, turned eyelids and turned eyelashes, and others.
Blepharitis
This chronic eye condition causes dysfunction of the oil glands in the eyelids called the meibomian glands and can lead to dry eye and inflammatory conditions of the cornea. Scaly and flakey deposits can build up on the eyelashes. This condition occurs more commonly in those who suffer from acne rosacea.
Treatment involves intensive lid hygiene, use of tear supplements and occasionally antibiotic eye drops. Flax seed oil has been shown to help this condition.
